One account makes me go though the Internet

Firstly, let me explain what is one account makes me go though the Internet.



Renren, which is the "facebook" in China, is very poupular with youth especially undergraduates. I also have a Renren account. Several months ago, I opened a webpage of Douban, which is a website for document share. If I want to download a document, I must register as a member. Though the register is free of charge, I was not willling to spend several minutes to do it. However, I noticed a sign reads "log in using your Renren account". Without hesitation, I clicked the sign and immediately became a member of the website.



In the next few months, I came up with many such signs in many popular websites in China like Tudou, a video-share website like youtube. I clicked these signs almost everytime. However, several weeks ago, when TengxunQQ and 360 began to "fight" with other, I came to concern about my privacy and my rights.



My first concern is my privacy might be invaded. I filled many personal information in Renren, such like my birthday, my hometown, my primary school,my university and major, my email address and my msn account etc. Once any websites of these that can log in with Renren account sell all my personal informations for profit, it will cause the invasion of my privacy. Moreover, it is very difficult for all the netizens to protect their personal information from stolen by others. There a very popular phrase in China called "human flesh search", which means that it is possible for any one in the world to know who is you, where are you living and other information about you by search the Internet. The "human flesh search engine," a literal translation of the Chinese, is a phenomenon of mobilizing the internet population to track down specific individuals or facts.



My second concern is my rights might be violated. Just take the war between TengxunQQ and 360 for example. Tengxun forced the users to uninstall 360 software or users cannot use QQ. I felt quite angry that QQ threatened us users. On the other hand, why QQ dare treaten uses was because QQ has been a part of our life; we almost cannot live with out it. Thus when the case comes to Renren, I cannot imagine that if I continue to use Renren account in almost every popular websites and oneday, Renren tell me that you must uninstall what software unless you do not want to use Renren any more. Then I might get in a panic because I cannot log in most of the websites that I usually use.



In the final analysis, what matters is whether the companies obey the rules and really care about the privacy and rights. Actually, a company’s success not only relys on the advantages that the company has but also mostly owes to the trust of its customers. The ethnical issue is that if the company offend its customers’ rights to obtain its own goal. We know that everytime when we install a software, we must agree with the rules that the software company set. Besides, in most cases, the company writes that the company has the right to explain the rules. However, even though software companies have the right to explain the rules, he must obey the law and the basic moral restriction. They have the right to explain and the customers also have the right to defend their rights.



Until yesterday, I heard that the Ministry of Information and Industry urged QQ and 360 to apologise for the inconvenience they brought to netizens to their users. The war came to and end. However, the loss that customers suffered cannot be made up with few apologizing words. Hope all the companies can realise this truth.
